Odd fact #1

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

Sometimes writing these blogs can be somewhat of a chore somedays. Either nothing interesting has happened or I’m so fired up about something and I want to use this blog as my soapbox. My fear is that my honesty may lose me friends. My object with this blog is to let you in, I want you to get to know me and those quirks that make me who I am. You expect me to be honest with you, right? I would expect no less in return. So this brings us to the first of MANY installments of Odd facts about Jordan.

Odd fact #1- My honesty and my mouth get me in more trouble than I care to count! I’m really trying to get better at this but I have a tendency to say what I feel.  Nothing deliberately hurtful, just my honest opinion. I truly believe it’s not what you say, it’s how you say it.  So if you see a blog post written by me and you read my opinion about something, please don’t be offended. It is just my way of letting you into my world.

Weeble, Wobble…

That’s what I heard my husband say all day yesterday as I tried to function with my new fashion accessory….a walking cast on my left leg. Yep, I now walk like a penguin all because my foot was killing me all week and decided to see what my doctor could do for the pain. It seems that I have strained or pulled some tendon on the side of foot and I have an extra bone in my foot that could be causing an issue…..I knew I was full of something but wasn’t aware it contained an extra bone!!! So in order for this tendon to heal I can’t move it around. So they gave me this walking/air cast that keeps my foot from moving all over the place like it would in a tennis shoe. Even though I look like a complete idiot (insert joke here) I’m actually very happy to have this……my foot doesn’t hurt!! Kinda stinks that I had to get this cast when it’s over 80 degrees outside BUT it is removeable!! I plan to enjoy the pool sometime this weekend so I can turn my day glo skin into something a little more…healthy looking. Here’s hoping you have a great weekend as well…I’m sure you won’t have to try very hard!

Booty and Spongebob..huh??

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

Have any of you seen the new Burger King commercial that has to do with Spongebob and having a bunch of women dance around with  square rear ends?? If you have, do you find it inappropriate for young children?? Ever since I first saw this  commercial about a week or so ago, it has absolutely irritated me to no end! I’m not a mom who has young ones at home but I still find it disturbing that Burger King would advertise Spongebob toys for their kids meal while having women shake their “square booties” to a rap song. Forget for a second that it’s not only inappropriate but that the commercial is really stupid. Unfortunately, the commercial did what it was supposed to do……make us talk about  Burger King!! Here’s the commercial for those of you who haven’t seen it yet. Let me know what you think!

There’s no crying in car shopping!!!

Monday, April 20th, 2009

Well I hate to admit this…..but I absolutely LOVE my car. My baby is 13 years old and showing its age. My husband has a newer car and it will be paid off next month so we’ve been looking to replace mine and I just can’t seem to give it up. I’m just not one of those people that feel the need to have the latest thing or  impress people by what I drive. I never lease a car, I always buy…and I don’t buy new, always “pre-owned”. My friends think I’m weird for having the same car forever but seriously, why would I want another car when mine runs perfectly and has never been in the shop? Not to mention I haven’t had a car payment in YEARS! This car has been everywhere with me and maybe it’s our history that keeps me so loyal. My car is AWESOME in the snow! When the big blizzard of 2008 came blowing through, my car was my hero! I try to get used to idea of having a new car and what kind of things I would like it to have but I just can’t bare to look online at all these beautiful and shiny vehicles. Am I the only one who feels this way? My husband made fun of me because he took me to a car dealership and I got all misty eyed in the showroom……..he looked over at me and said “Are you kidding me??? YOU”RE CRYING?”. So this blog post is dedicated to those of us who are loyal to our cars. Sure they may have some dents and dings but they have stood the test of time and no crossover or hybrid is going to take it’s place!

I’ve been spotted!

Friday, April 17th, 2009

It’s amazing! There are cameras everywhere and can catch you doing anything…especially when you are acting dumb. Looks like I’ve been spotted again….doing something dumb! What are the chances? Have a great weekend!

I can’t believe I like this stuff!

It’s amazing, as little kids we are positive we will always like dolls, playing house and eating mac and cheese with hot dogs. We never liked getting clothes for presents or shopping for anything but toys. But OHHHHHH how things change! These days I find myself looking at appliances that do all these nifty things…. and I enjoy it! I look forward to drives around the city and country looking for out of the way places to eat or shop….and I enjoy it. Just being with a group of poeple and talking…I enjoy this! Grocery shopping for veggies….Yes, I like those! Making plans to shop at flea markets and antique shops……I like this!  I may seem “mature” but my inner child is very much there! What if I told you that while I shop for appliances I have to press every button…… Drives around the city and country are more pleasant by cranking up the radio and singing at the top of our lungs……Talking with a group people usually involves laughter and jokes…..Shopping for veggies isn’t bad when you get to ride your shopping cart to the car…….Shopping at flea markets and antique shops means you can point out all of your old toys and maybe buy something you’ve always wanted! See, getting older doesn’t have to be so bad…..it’s all about being a kid while doing all these grown up things!

Be careful not to grab an arm while you’re swimming!

When I arrived here in 2001 I was quickly told about where to shop, what restaurants to go to and which to avoid. I was even told about rumors that involved local celebrities (those were interesting!!), but one factoid about Columbus stuck out more than the others. I was telling a group of friends how much I like having a big city just minutes away from the country. I continued to tell them that one of my favorite places to go on a nice day was Alum Creek. One of my friends spoke up and said “Well you do know that they found a bunch of coffins on the beach at Alum Creek a couple years back don’t you?”. I guess it would be a good time to tell you that anything that involves death or cemeteries absolutely freaks me out! After hearing the whole story on how it used to be a cemetary and that they moved bodies etc. I was pretty much grossed out. We enjoy boating and tubing at Alum Creek and having a picnic dinner when time and weather permits. But I pretty much decided there would be no swimming at the beach.  So fast forward 8 years and here I am listening to Clark Donley give the news headlines as I’m driving home and what do I hear??? More caskets found at Alum Creek and there are human remains found inside!! EWWWWWWW! All I can say is please watch out when playing fetch with your dog on the banks of Alum Creek….he could come back with a REAL bone! Yuck!

I’d like to introduce you to my daughter…

Thursday, April 9th, 2009

I always wondered what my child would be like….especially a daughter! Would she entertain herself endlessly like I did? Would she be outgoing or shy? Would she be a girlie girl or a tomboy like me? Would she keep the family entertained by putting on her own shows where she danced and sang like I used to do?  Well, I found a little girl out there that could easily be my kid. She used the family video camera and narrated a book for everyone. This is exactly the kind of stuff I used to do as a child.

Does your child have a “Fluffy” name?

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

I just got done reading a quick blurb about Trista and Ryan Sutter’s new baby girl. Of course they have to have some out-there baby name……Blakesley Grace…Wow! Where did they come up with that one? You may wonder what I mean by the term “Fluffy” name…it’s my own term that I use when kids names are odd and seem to come from a soap opera. I’m not saying that they are bad but it strikes me as funny to picture these kids as elderly people someday…..”These are my grandparents, Makayla and Cody”. That is just too odd to me. I like the older names, especially ones that are rich in family history. I have a Donald Walter, Patricia Gail, Harry Louis and some other ones that escape me at the moment. Not all of them I like….I love my grandfather but I don’t think I’d ever name my son Harry. My sister used his middle name for my oldest nephew so now that’s taken. I agree it’s tough to come up with a name that the child will like without sounding like they will grow up to be a stripper. Gwen Stefani has Zuma, Tom and Katie have Suri, Courtney Cox has Coco, Rachel Griffiths has Banjo and my favorite family of girls………Fifi Trixibelle, Peaches Honeyblossom and Little Pixie. And people wonder why I don’t want kids! I can name a dog any goofy name I want and it’s perfectly normal!

Pet-peeve time!!

Saturday, April 4th, 2009

Ok, this has been eating away at me for the past 12 hrs and I couldn’t think of a better place to vent then here! Now before I fire off my big complaint please let me tell you that I’m not one of those people that get upset over every little injustice. For the many times I do complain about something there are just as many times that I compliment people and business’s on their customer service, cleanliness and attention to detail. Unfortunately, this is not one of those times…here’s the story…

My husband and I enjoyed a nice dinner out last night at a popular Columbus restaurant chain. Our waitress was fantastic, very engaging and quite accomodating. We ordered our dinner (which was very good by the way) and while I was sipping on water I watched a different waitress walk out of the kitchen with a big tray of food propped up on her shoulder. This waitress had her hair pulled back in a ponytail that went past her shoulders. I was watching her balance this tray when I saw something that made my stomach churn. With this tray up on her left shoulder, she whipped her head around to grab something and her long ponytail swung right into a plate of food……EWWWWWWW! She didn’t seem to know she did it and kept on going. I continued to watch the food make it’s way our direction and then be delivered to a family two tables away. Here’s my question to you….Do you find it disturbing when servers hold their trays near their head and hair? That has always botthered me! After I saw that waitress dip her hair into the food, I then saw a waitress carry a tray the way it should be carried, out in front of her nowhere near her head…kudos to her! Ok, that’s my story…that is what has been bothering me all night but I’m glad you could be my sounding board.  Well, looks like we’re going to stay at home and cook-out…it’s going to be gorgeous!! Have a great weekend!
