What a bunch of slobs!

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

I could sit and watch old movies all day. I love the elegance of Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire. But not only did their dancing amaze us but I always wanted to dress like Ginger. How they dressed back then always dazzled me. The dresses, the high heels, beautiful waves of golden locks, long eyelashes…..simply perfection! What our elders must think of us now! It simply baffles me to see people doing their grocery shopping in their pajamas….have we gotten that lazy that we roll out of bed and do our daily errands not stopping to brush our hair or even put tennis shoes on? I am guilty of dressing like a slob….maybe not to the extent of wearing my Pj’s out  shopping. But I love my comfy jeans, soft sweatpants and oversized sweatshirts. I don’t necessarily see the point of dressing to the nines to do shopping. Unfortunately, times have changed and dressing in long dresses with petticoats, high heels and hair perfecty pinned up just doesn’t fit in today’s world. While we women dress in comfort, men choose not to shave, throw on a flannel shirt and toss on a baseball hat…..and if we are lucky the pants actually fit around their waist not around their rear ends! But thoughts of Carey Grant and Rock Hudson are never far from my mind. How handsome they were! So when I’m faced with seeing someone at my local grocery store decked out in their tweety bird Pj’s I think of what must be going through our grandparents heads. How glamourous they must have been! Do I think we’ll ever get back to the glamour of the 40’s and 50’s? No. But we can at least stop wearing the pajamas…do our hair…shave the beards….pull up our pants. It’s a start!

My grumpy shopping partner

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

I’m starting to notice a trend. Every time my husband and I go food shopping together he turns into this incredibly grumpy person. I really don’t know why but it starts as soon as we hit the produce dept. He will question my reasonings for getting a certain brand or a certain quantity…”Why are you getting that?….What do you need that for?” When I tell him its something that I would like, his response becomes a big sigh of “FINE”. I try to remain upbeat and positive but boy is it hard when he huffs and puffs and complains about everything. In fact it leads to many arguments throughout the store. But I have no clue why this happens! He is in an absolutely delightful mood on our way to the store. So I’ve finally come to the decision he’s not allowed to shop with me anymore. Not only will I not have someone throwing a temper tantrum but I can do the shopping soooo much quicker!! Has this ever happened to you? Do you shop with your spouse or go it alone?

I’m with Coco!

Way to go NBC executives!! Way to completely ruin the history of The Tonight Show. I can tolerate Jay Leno but I honestly will stop watching because I’m such a huge fan on Conan O’Brien’s. I hope that Conan finds another gig VERY soon! I look forward to seeing his silliness in the near future. Good Luck Coco!

It’s going to be a GREAT day!

Saturday, January 16th, 2010

Yes, any day that I don’t have to drive in snow and ice and I don’t have to freeze my rear end off is a GREAT DAY!!! I’m on the air until 10am then my husband and I are heading to Sidney, Ohio. A friend of ours breeds Old English Sheepdogs and we hope to be buying a pup from her next litter. We are just paying her a visit, we aren’t picking out any puppies yet. She had a new additon (sheepdog wise) at her house so we can’t wait to get on our hands and knees and play with all of her loveable bears…cause that’s what they look like! Before I get grief for buying a puppy from a breeder…..trust me I’ve beaten myself up over it as well. I grew up with an Old English Sheepdog. I have always wanted another one and have been a frequent visitor to web pages that rescue OES’s. But for the life of me I can’t find one to adopt that is a least a couple of states away! I would adopt a rescue in a heartbeat! And if one becomes available we probably still will. I will NEVER buy from a pet store and I hope you never do either! I strongly support animal shelters and we have a rescued cat. After this puppy and the hang of having a dog around, we will probably add to the brood. I’ll post some pictures on my Facebook page when we get back….become a friend of mine on Facebook…just search for “Jordan Kline” and it’s with a K not a C! LOL

The dumb things just keep happening…

Yesterday I found myself in the kitchen getting ready to enjoy a left over chicken salad….it was going to be my lunch. My husband and a friend of ours were outside in the garage working on our friends truck in the cold. I thought I would be a nice person for a change and make a pot of tea and offer them a cup to keep them warm. So I set my salad on one of the burners and grabbed the tea pot and filled it up and set it on another burner. I turned on the burner then walked across the kitchen to find the tea bags. Within seconds I was hearing sizzing on the burner and I figured it was just water on the outside of the pot. UMMMM NO! I looked over and I see all this smoke and my salad on the burner FRYING!!! Did I forget to mention that it was in a plastic take out container??? So the house is filling with smoke and it smells like burnt plastic. I ran to open doors but then realized the cat would get loose so I had to shut him in the basement. Then franticly ran back through the kitchen to open the door. Then on the way back through I’m desprately looking for the remote control to the fan and put that on at full speed……then over to the living room and crank that fan to high. I stuck my head in the garage to tell them of my own stupidity and also give them some kind of warning that it smelled really bad in the house. So after I got the salad cooled down and it was cleaned up my husband told me that we need to purchase another burner…..So guess what we are going to do today???? You got it! Oh and by the way after a half hour I did remember to let the cat out of the basement!!

2009

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

It was a year filled with great things…..a new car, a new house, new friends and an appreciation for good health when you have it! We rang in the new year with family and we will watch it end with family. We had a big loss on my husband’s side of the family….his grandfather. What a great man he was but grateful that he is no longer in pain. There were many lessons learned this year and there will be plenty more in 2010. My wish for 2010 is just to be happy. I don’t want to taken anything for granted…..family, friends, health and work….actually all the wonderful things in my life I want to appreciate even more in 2010. My wish for you is the same. Take a look around.. soak it all in…and be a better person. You never know when this can all be taken away.
Thank you to my husband for a wonderful year…filled with love, laughter and more than a few heated disputes! I love you!
Happy 2010 everyone!

I can talk!!

The voice is back and so happy! Thank you for all the well wishes….it’s been a tough road but so glad I’m feeling back to normal (whatever that is!).

Christmas coming up next week….we don’t have any decorations up and that’s just fine with me! I’m still trying to find places for things so to have to put up lights and all that other stuff would have been too much of a hassle. So while our house may look plain, at least I don’t have to take anything down! I’ve done some shopping but nothing to really get excited over. I haven’t wrapped a thing and I’m ok with that. I still have a stack of xmas cards sitting at the house that needs mailed out so I think I’ll do that later today. So I feel no stress due to the holidays…I just do stuff at my own pace….I like it!

Voice?? What Voice?

Monday, November 30th, 2009

I’m seriously at wits end!! After my bout with pneumonia my voice still hasn’t returned back to normal!! At it’s best it just sounds like I’m a smoker or was at one heck of a party the night before but not what I normally sound like. It’s been like 3 weeks since being sick maybe longer! I called my Doctor to let him know and now I’m headed to a specialist that will take a long camera and send it up my nose and down my throat to look at my vocal chords. I’m a tad nervous for two reasons ….1-I hope I don’t gag and hurl on the Doctor and 2- I really hope they don’t find anything seriously wrong! There could be a number of things that could be really bad but I don’t want to think of that. It’s hard, this is a job I absolutely LOVE and I couldn’t imagine not being able to do it because I have difficulty talking. I head to the Doctor some time this week but I’ll let you know how things turn out. Wish me luck!!

I just don’t get you people!!

Ok, before I offend EVERYONE let me narrow it down by saying some parents are on my crappy list (to put it nicely). We were driving to my parents house this past weekend for a quick visit and as we were driving along I was seeing a disturbing trend….many family vehicles with the portable DVD players playing the like of Spongebob Squarepants ( my husbands favorite), any of the hundreds of Disney movies or maybe even Hannah Montanna. Is that all kids do now? Is that all it takes to be a parent? Plop your child in front of the TV and say “Here you go! Now be quiet! There is such a great opportunity to talk with your children during the ride to discuss school, their friends and just to witness the world around them. Some my favorite memories come from road trips with my family. All the games that we played, singing along to the radio…..oh so much fun! In fact one of my friends from highschool told me that her and her sister used to act out death scenes in the back seat of the car just to get a laugh from the other drivers behind them. My cousins and I constructed a huge link of straws from McDonalds and while my aunt was driving we unloaded the long strand of straws out the back of their van. We were cracking each other up as the length of straws was getting longer and longer. Plus I’m sure you can all agree with me that trying to get a tractor trailer to honk his horn was the absolute best fun in a car. So as the holidays get closer and road trips to see relatives are scheduled please do me a favor….please rethink the portable DVD player. You only have so many years to enjoy these road trips with your little ones. Spend them by appreciating nature, teaching them how to have a conversation or showing them the fine art of getting a semi to honk his horn! These are the memories that they will carry forever!
